In the process of wiring, the quality of cable directly affects the performance of industrial Ethernet, just like other networks. In addition to being affected by high electromagnetic interference, the industrial environment will also be affected by different levels of temperature, dust, humidity and other factors, which are not common in the home and office environment.

Compared with Category 5 cable and Category 5e cable, Category 6 cable is less vulnerable to external interference and EMI noise. Category 6 refers to Category 6 unshielded twisted pairs: the parameters of Category 6 unshielded twisted pairs have been greatly improved, and the bandwidth has also been expanded to 250MHz or higher. Category 6 twisted-pair is different from Category 5 or Super Category 5 twisted-pair in appearance and structure. It not only increases the insulated cross skeleton, but also places the four pairs of twisted-pair wires in the four grooves of the cross skeleton, and the diameter of the cable is also thicker. Industrial Ethernet cable is designed for more severe industrial environment and has the ability to resist physical erosion. When installing Category 6 cable, ensure that RJ45 interface and socket can also reach Category 6 level. For short distance wiring, in order to ensure the best use effect, it is better to use pre-prepared patch cables and install corresponding connectors in the factory. Sockets should be used when long distance wires need to be installed.

When the shielded Ethernet cable exceeds the scope of protective sleeve, its performance in EMI environment will be better. Shielded cable is the key to ensure good grounding. It is essential to have an effective grounding reference point. Multiple grounding connections will form a grounding circuit, and different potential at different grounding connections will introduce noise in the cable.

In order to avoid huge damage to the network caused by the grounding circuit, the grounding RJ45 interface should be used at one end of the cable, and the insulated RJ45 interface should be used at the other end.

If the Ethernet cable and power cable are crossed, the crossing angle is quite particular. If the voltage is high or the parallel distance is long, maintain a separation distance of at least 8 to 12 inches between the Ethernet cable and the power cable. If the Ethernet cable is routed in a metal trench or sleeve, the adjacent trench or sleeve must be connected together to ensure electrical continuity.

In order to avoid electromagnetic interference, Ethernet cables should be kept away from equipment that may cause electromagnetic interference, such as motors, motor control equipment, lighting equipment, live conductors, etc. On the panel, the Ethernet cable and connector should be kept at least 2 inches apart. When the cable leaves the EMI interference source, the recommended cable bending radius should be followed.
