Standards and Settings for Industrial Switches

Generally speaking, Industrial Switches are more colorful and flexible in port configurations and commodity series products, and can meet the requirements of various industrial industries. It is widely used in intelligent transportation, security monitoring systems, wind power generation, solar power generation, coal mining, and other industries. In particular, electric power engineering, transportation, and the metallurgical industry are known as the three potential industries for the use of industrial switches.

Industrial Ethernet switches are specifically designed for industrial environments, so the requirements for industrial switches are much more stringent than for general commercial switches! However, many commercial grade switches are sold in the market under the guise of industrial switches. This article will introduce you to the standards of industrial switches and how to set them up.

What are the standards for industrial switches

1. Fast redundancy standard

Industrial switches generally have the function of rapid dual loop and redundancy, with a redundancy time of less than 20ms. Although commercial goods can also constitute redundant Internet, the cure time is over 10 to 30 seconds, which is too long to meet the application requirements in industrial environments.

2. Anti strong interference and suitable for harsh environments

Industrial Ethernet switches can work in harsh electromagnetic environments and have a high level of protection against lightning, fast pulse bursts, and static electricity at data ports, which commercial products do not have.

3. Good temperature characteristics and installation flexibility

Industrial Ethernet switches should have good temperature characteristics. Industrial switches generally use heat dissipating corrugated profiles, which have stronger heat removal and protection capabilities. They can basically reach a temperature range of - 45 to 85 ℃ and can work normally in all situations. They can integrate complex temperatures and ambient humidity to meet the stability requirements in harsh weather environments. In terms of installation flexibility, it can support multiple methods such as Din-rail type installation, panel type installation, stacked installation, and cabinet installation.

4. Power supply and installation method of industrial Ethernet switch

The power supply system is a crucial part of industrial switches. Common power supply failures generally account for over 35% of the equipment failure rate. To prevent inconvenience caused by common switching power supply failures, industrial switch products generally choose a dual power supply mode to avoid trouble caused by power supply failures.

5. Using industrial grade electronic components, long service life

Industrial switches, from chassis to electronic components, adopt industrial grade solutions that withstand the test of extreme environments, and thus can better integrate into the industrial environment, suitable for industrial applications in various extreme environments.

How to set up an industrial switch

1. Build a configuration environment through the Console interface

(1) First, you need to establish a local configuration environment, just connect the serial port of the computer (or terminal) to the Console port of the Ethernet switch through a configuration cable.

(2) Run the terminal simulation program on the computer, set the terminal communication parameters to baud rate 9600bps, 8-bit data bits, 1-bit stop bits, no checksum, and no flow control, and select the terminal type as VT100.

(3) Power on the industrial Ethernet switch, and the terminal displays the self-test information of the Ethernet switch. After the self-test, the user is prompted to type Enter, and a command line prompt will appear.

(4) Type a command to configure an industrial Ethernet switch or view the operating status of the industrial Ethernet switch. If you need help, you can type "?" at any time.

2. Setting up a configuration environment through Telnet

If the user has correctly configured the IP address of the VLAN interface managed with an industrial Ethernet switch through the Console interface (using the ipaddress command in VLAN interface view E), and has specified that the Ethernet port connected to the terminal belongs to the management VLAN (using the port command in VLAN view E), then you can use Telnet to log in to the industrial Ethernet switch and configure the industrial Ethernet switch.

Now you should know what the standard for industrial switches is. When choosing and purchasing them, you must ensure that the switches are industrial rather than commercial grade. As for the settings of the industrial switch, you can refer to the above content, and you can also check the instructions for using the industrial switch.
