POE (Power Over Ethernet) refers to the existing Ethernet Cat 5 Without any change to the cabling infrastructure, the technology that can provide DC power for such devices while transmitting data signals for some IP based terminals (such as IP phones, wireless LAN access points AP, webcams, etc.) is a switch that supports Ethernet power supply. Power over Ethernet plays an important role in powering VoIP phones, IP cameras, APs and other devices through a network cable.
With the popularization of PoE technology, IEEE 802.3af/at standard is widely adopted, and poe switch has become an ideal choice for networking power supply in the field of intelligent solutions. Although PoE technology has made significant progress, there are still doubts about the technology. Let's take a look at what everyone has to worry about?
1. PoE switches are unreliable?
Technically, PoE technology is completely reliable. With the well-known Ethernet technology, IT teams can easily update PoE technology in their existing networks. The only thing you need to do is to wire as usual, and the PoE device will be responsible for power transmission. Second, PoE can prevent power failure through power manageability and battery backup.
From the perspective of the switch itself, the reliability and stability of the PoE switch are related to two parts. One is the data exchange part, which is mainly determined by PCB, switch chip, PoE chip, other electronic materials, and the other is the power supply part, including the built-in or external power supply. Therefore, we should choose PoE switches from formal manufacturers.
2. PoE switches are expensive?
There are many variables that may affect the answer to this question. But actually, the deployment of PoE switches is likely to reduce the cost of the entire project. PoE switches are powered by network cables, that is, the network cable that transmits data can also transmit power, which can not only simplify the construction process, reduce the installation cost, but also be safer.
First, using PoE switches does not require a separate power supply line. That is to say, the labor cost of installation will be greatly reduced, because there is no need to hire a licensed electrician to install.
Second, PoE switches have realized network improvement and further reduced costs. With PoE switches, you can install network devices such as IP cameras or sensors away from the power grid without requiring more AC power lines.
Third, PoE system is easy to maintain. Users can automatically shut it down at night and reset it remotely, collect relevant information from servers, printers, hubs, switches and other network devices, and effectively manage it through Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).
Finally, the PoE system can be connected to an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). This fact means that even if the conventional power service is interrupted, the key task system can be guaranteed to obtain continuous power supply.
3. PoE switches have limited power?
With the extensive expansion of Internet of Things network based on PoE power supply, more and more power consuming devices have been born. Unfortunately, PoE standards such as IEEE 802.3at are only applicable to low-power devices that provide up to 30W of power over Ethernet. Some high-power devices need to be driven by 60/90W power. Fortunately, the latest standard IEEE 802.3bt allows a maximum power output of 90W.
Engineers now have a larger power budget to use before considering the use of offline power and all the costs associated with it. Considering these facts, we can accurately say that PoE switches can meet more application requirements.
4. PoE switches have limited applications?
The power demand of wireless AP, IP phone, IP webcam and other IP based terminal products generally does not exceed 12W, which is also the main field of PoE switch application. By deploying PoE technology, the problems such as the difficulty of wireless AP to supply power at the ceiling ventilation layer, the power failure of IP phones due to accidental events, and the need for IP network cameras to obtain external power supply have been solved. The PoE switch's QoS, VLAN, ACL and other functions meet the network's requirements for priority allocation, delay, jitter, security, data isolation, etc.
In addition to traditional applications, Ethernet PoE switches also have large application scenarios in security protection, building control, retail, entertainment, RFID and other emerging markets, such as PoE smoke detectors, POS information terminals, PTZ cameras, and even WiMax base stations. By supporting IEEE 802.3af standard and IEEE 802.3at draft, PoE switches can support higher port power and obtain greater application prospects.
The PoE switches independently developed by Houshi strictly guarantee the PoE switch standard. The output voltage of PoE power supply is higher than the standard (44-57V DC), and the output voltage of PoE switch port complies with IEEE802.3af/at standard. At the same time, PoE technology has been applied to the switch in the innovative application of PoE technology, and a series of powerful and stable PoE switches have been developed, effectively solving the problem of data transmission.
